In 1993, the Rogers Park Home Repair Program was established to assist senior and disabled residents with home repairs and modifications. The program still exists today under the banner of Small Home Repairs for Seniors (SHRFS)—a program in partnership with the Northside Community Development Corporation (NCDC) and supported by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). Through SHRFS, NCR carries out small accessibility repair work through licensed and bonded contractors, at no cost to eligible program clients.
Over half of seniors take serious falls in their homes, but many of those falls can be avoided through preventive measures taken through the SHRFS program. Residents 60+ years of age who live in single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums or even apartments may be eligible for this program.
To speak with NCR’s SHRFS staff manager, please email seniors@northsidecr.org or call (773) 338-7722 (ext. 21).
