Small Home Repairs for Seniors (SHRFS)

In 1993, the Rogers Park Home Repair Program was established to assist senior and disabled residents with home repairs and modifications. The program still exists today under the banner of Small Home Repairs for Seniors (SHRFS)—a program in partnership with the Northside Community Development Corporation (NCDC) and supported by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). Through SHRFS, NCR carries out small accessibility repair work through licensed and bonded contractors, at no cost to eligible program clients.

NCR is dedicated to enabling seniors to live independently and remain in their communities by providing essential safety and accessibility modifications in seniors’ homes at no cost to them.

Over half of seniors take serious falls in their homes, but many of those falls can be avoided through preventive measures taken through the SHRFS program. Residents 60+ years of age who live in single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums or even apartments may be eligible for this program.

SHRFS program is carried out in partnership with the Northside Community Development Corporation (NCDC), and the home repair work is performed by Licensed and bonded contractors. Specific eligibility requirements apply with regard to income, personal assets, ownership and property configuration, and is a first-come, first-serve program.
